Tax appeal mania not fading away

“Thousands of tax appeals have been filed in Passaic County in recent years, and local officials say the trend is expected to continue as government expenses increase, the housing market is stifled by a lack of available credit and more communities apply new property values from recent revaluations.

The number of tax appeals in Passaic County skyrocketed 70 percent last year, with more than half coming from Paterson, according to the Passaic County Tax Board.

This year, three other Passaic County communities — Little Falls, Ringwood and Totowa — will apply new property assessments to their tax rolls after recently completed revaluations.”
