DeAngelis and DellaPelle to Present Chamber of Commerce Seminar

McKirdy & Riskin’s Rich DeAngelis and Tony DellaPelle will be presenting a seminar for the Tri-County Chamber of Commerce entitled “How Can You Cut Your Property Tax Bill?” on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at the Chamber offices on Route 46 in Fairfield. McKirdy & Riskin’s Anthony DellaPelle will be participating in a webinar being provided by the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education, “Rebuilding New Jersey: When the Sand Settles – Recovery Issues After Sandy”, on Thursday, January 31, 2012 from 12:00 pm to 1:40 pm. This lunch time webinar will give an update on legal issues which have arisen relating to the Sandy recovery efforts, including municipal issues, zoning and planning issues, beach replenishment and waterfront development issues and environmental regulation. McKirdy & Riskin’s Harry Riskin was recently elected to the Board of Trustees of the Mayor Performing Arts Center in Morristown, New Jersey. According the MPAC Board Chairman, Joseph M. Goryeb, Harry’s legal expertise was sought to complement the existing board members to “ensure the continued health and growth” of the non-profit performing arts center in the future. McKirdy & Riskin’s Tom Olson and Anthony Della Pelle were recently quoted in Kevin DeMarrais’ article in the Record , which explains that owners of real estate which was materially damaged by Hurricane Sandy may be entitled to a reduction in their property tax assessments for 2013. In order to qualify for the reduction, owners are required to notify the municipal Tax Assessor in writing on or before January 10, 2013 of any material depreciation to their property. McKirdy & Riskin’s Thomas Olson was recently interviewed and quoted in an article by The Record’s Kevin DeMarrais concerning real estate tax appeals. The article provides DeMarrais’ effort to appeal the real property tax assessment on his home in Bergen County. As indicated by both DeMarrais and Olson, the tax appeal process can be complex and time consuming, and many property owners who file appeals on their own unfortunately find themselves in a position where their appeals may be dismissed if they are not familiar and in compliance with the procedural rules which apply.
